Class 6S Information

Key Class Information:

Reading

Reading is an important part of homework and children should read with an adult at least three times a week; including having opportunity to pause to talk and review the text they are reading. As a book is being read, an adult should log the date, page number reached and any relevant comments.

Children should look to read a broad range of texts - including books from the school reading scheme and school's free reader section - that incorporate different narratives and non-fiction books.

All children should bring their reading book and record into school every day. Completed books should be placed in the white 'Reading Books' folder box to be changed that day.

Spelling

Each week, children will work on a new spelling pattern and rule; they will complete different activities in their spelling journals and as part of their English lessons. In addition, children will practise a selection of the KS2 statutory words. Information about the week's spellings will be shared on the Class Dojo page, however, there will not be a 'traditional' weekly test.

Weekly homework

Maths and English homework will be set on alternate weeks. Homework is given out on a Friday and has a deadline of being completed and returned into class by the following Wednesday. The activities set will always be to consolidate children's understanding of something they have been working on in class.

Log-in details for children's online learning accounts can be found in the front cover of their Homework Book.

PE

Our PE days are Monday and Thursday. Please make sure children have their full PE kit in school and it would be really helpful if items of clothing are labelled.
