Sporting Events

Netball Skills Festival - April 2023

Well done to our fantastic children who attended the Netball Skills festival at Spirit of Sport. They practised a range of skills and then took part in some informal games. You were all fantastic!

Lacrosse Taster Festival

Well done to our children who attended the Lacrosse Taster Festival on Tuesday 18th April. They really enjoyed experiencing a new sport and showed lots of perseverance when getting to grips with the skills needed to play. You were fab!

Outdoor Adventurous Activities Event

Well done to our fantastic year 3 and 4 pupils who took part in an OAA event at Towneley Park on Wednesday 22nd March. They took part in team challenges and had to complete an orienteering course. Everyone in the group worked really well together and showed fantastic teamwork.

School Games Dance Festival

On Tuesday 21st March, some of the Year 5 girls went to a dance competition at Blessed Trinity. We have worked really hard as a team and have been practising for 11 weeks. The theme of the dance was 'Eco green - Save the Planet'. We performed brilliantly and all wore the same costumes and had fabulous face paints done by Mrs Slack and Ava’s mum. We competed against 10 other schools and are really proud of ourselves for coming 6th in the competition. We would like to give a big thank you to Miss Lonsdale and to Kira, our dance teacher, for all their help. By Scarlett and Georgie

Tag Rugby Tournament

On Tuesday 21st March, some Year 5 & 6 children, Charlie, Zain, William, Joey, Jack, Reuben, Ellisa, Freya, Connie and Indi, took part in a tag rugby competition. Our first game was tough but we managed to get a win. Our second game was another tough one but we won again. Our third game came and we managed to win. That enabled us to win our group. Our second group looked hard but we won our first match. Our next game was very tough but we tried our hardest and managed to get a draw. During our last game, we battled and battled and eventually secured a win. In total we won 5 matches and drew one and we won the competition and received gold medals. Thank you to all the parents for taking us and thank you to Miss McDonagh, Miss Lonsdale and Mr Crawford for arranging it for us.

Sportshall Athletics Competition - February 2023

A huge well done to our Year 5 and 6 Athletics team who took part in this year's Sportshall Athletics competition. They competed in a range of track and field events, showing amazing determination and incredible team work. We are all very proud of you.

Speed Stacking Festival - January 2023

Well done to all our year 5 and 6 children who took part in the Speed Stacking Festival at St Peter's Leisure Centre. They all had lots of fun taking part in lots of different challenges to develop their skills. It is safe to say they were all getting pretty quick at speed stacking by the end of the event. Well done to Grace who won the school games badge.

Girl's Lancashire Football Finals - January 2023

A huge congratulations to our girl's football team who achieved a fantastic 4th place in the Lancashire finals which took place in Thornton-Cleveleys. They have played fantastically all the way through the qualifying games and we were all so proud to see them represent Briercliffe in the finals.

Sports Week 2022

We have had a very busy and active week this week at Briercliffe as we have been taking part in National School Sports Week. Each class have enjoyed lots of fun sports activities and held their own Sports Day. Have a look at the picture slides below of each class in action!

 

Class 1

We have enjoyed taking part in multi-skills sessions and our own class Sports Day.

Class 3

We enjoyed taking part in obstacle races and scored lots of points in our class Sports Day.

Class 4

We have enjoyed lots of activities during Sports Week, including obstacle races, Orienteering, Wake n Shake and our class Sports Day.

Class 5

We also took part in obstacle races, Maths Orienteering and worked really well in our teams during our class Sports Day.

Class 6

We have enjoyed taking part in Zumba, Maths Orienteering, Cricket and our class Sports Day this week.

Class 7

We have taken part in Zumba, Cricket, Orienteering and our own Sports Day this week. Well done to all out children at home who also took part in their own Sports Day activities.

Class 9

We have enjoyed so many activites this week including Rugby, Zumba, a Netball tournament, Baseball competition and our class Sports Day.

 

Class 10

In class 10 this week, we have enjoyed Zumba, Rugby, a Baseball competition and our own class Sports Day.

Class 11

Throughout Sports Week, we have enjoyed taking part in Rugby and Zumba sessions as well as a Baseball competition and our own class Sports Day.

Summer 1 Intra-School Competitions

Congratulations to all our children in KS1 and KS2 for their efforts in this half terms intra-school competitions. Years 1 and 2 completed a Net and Wall event, Years 3 and 4 completed a Striking and Fielding event and Years 5 and 6 took part in a Multi-Sports Team Realy event. Spring 2 Intra and Inter-school Competition Medal Winners

Congratulations to all our team medal winners from the intra and inter-school events completed in Spring 2. Take a look at the team pictures below. Well done to our KS2 Orienteering teams who achieved the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals in the inter-school competition as well as our team of orienteerers from Class 5 who achieved a 1st place medal.

 

Year 5 Bikeability Training - April 2021

Well done to all our Year 5 children who completed their Level 1 and 2 training. You all did so well!

Spring Term Intra-School Competition Photos

All our children have just completed their Spring Term sports competitions. In KS1, they completed an orienteering event where they had to work in pairs and use a map to locate animals around the course. They all showed fantastic teamwork and we had some very quick times, well done!

In KS2, the children competed in a Rugby competition set up by Burnley Rugby Club. They had to work in teams of seven, to complete three events as quickly as they could. You were all brilliant! Medals will be given to the winning teams in each class, as well as School Games Badges for teamwork and respect, after the Easter Break.

Their scores will also be entered into virtual competitions against other local schools. Have a look at the photos below to see our children in action!

 

Autumn Term Intra-school competition - Medal Winners

A big congratulations to all out medal winners from our Autumn term Intra-school competitions.

Autumn 2 Intra-school Competitions 2020 - 21

 

 Our KS1 and KS2 children have taken part in their second intra-school competitions this term. Classes 3, 4 and 5 competed in a Triathlon Athletics event. All the junior classes competed in a Team Football event and the Upper juniors also competed in an orienteering competition.

Well done to everyone, you all showed super team work and sportsmanship.

Results from these events, along with medals and school games badges, will be announced after Christmas.

Level 1 Bikeability - December 2020

On Friday 4th December, the children in Class 8 completed their Level 1 Bikeability course. They all did so well and tried their very best in some rather nasty British weather. Congratulations we are all very proud of you!

Race to Lapland - December 2020: We did it!

 

We are really pleased to announce that we have finally reached Lapland! After 4 weeks of running, jogging or walking every playtime or lunchtime, we have now achieved an amazing distance of 3453 miles! Well done to every class for completing as many laps of the playground you could each and every day. We came 4th place out of all the schools that also reached Lapland. A super result everyone, we are very proud of you all.

 

 

 

Autumn 1 Intra-school Competitions 2020 - 21

 

On Wednesday 14th and 21st October, all of our KS1 and KS2 children took part in their first intra-school competitions for this half term. Classes 3, 4 and 5 competed in a Multi-skills showdown in which they had to complete 5 events practicing the skills of catching, hopping, jumping and bouncing a ball. All the junior classes competed in an Athletics Pentathlon event which involved standing long jump, speed bounce, vertical jump, shuttle run and chest push.

A big well done to everyone, you all took part with such enthusiasm. Congratulations to the children from each class who received medals and School Games Badges. Please see the results and pictures from the events below for each class.

 

Virtual Mile - Summer 2020

 

A big thank you to all the children, parents and family members who took part in 'The Virtual Mile' event set up by Burnley Leisure. Your participation has been fantastic and is very much appreciated. There were over 590 entries from across Burnley which is a fantastic number. Congratulations to those children and family members from Briercliffe who came in the top 3 for their age category. We will make sure you recieve you medals in September. For participating, Burnley School Sports Partnership have awarded us a 19/20 Virtual School Games Mark.

Due to the current circumstances, the School Games Mark for 2019/20 did not go ahead. However, because of our high level of engagement in school games events over the Autumn and Spring terms, we have been awarded a School Games recognition certificate for all our efforts. We achieved this certificate because we attended over 75% of the School Sports Partnership events before lockdown. Thank you to all the children, staff and parents who have helped us take part in many events and competitions this year.

 

 

On Wednesday 4th March, our year 5 and 6 girls' football team took part in a football competition at Sir John Thursby college. The team played really well and Maddison received a School Games badge for showing fantastic sportsmanship during the competition.

 

 

Years 5 and 6 Sportshall Athletics Competition

 

On Wednesday 20th November, 10 of our year 5 and 6 children took part in a Sportshall Athletics competition. They competed in events such as javelin, triple jump, push throw, hurdles and relay races. The team competed really well and came 3rd overall. We are all really proud of you, you gave your very best.

 

 

 

On Wednesday 16th October, Kobi, Lewis and Gracie took part in a Multi-Sport Event at Sir John Thursby College. They participated in lots of fun activities from football skills to fun parachute games. They all had a fantastic time and took part with lots of enthusiasm. Well done.

 

 

‘Aldi Kit for Schools’ competition

 

We are pleased to announce that we have filled our poster for the ‘Aldi Kit for Schools’ competition. Once sent, we will be put into a prize draw with the chance to win £20,000 for our school. We are keeping our fingers crossed. We will also receive a kit bag with a range of resources to use for P.E and school sport. Thank you very much to all the parents and children who brought in the stickers from Aldi. We really do appreciate all your support.

 

On Wednesday 2nd October, Rayhan, Jenson, Olivia, Lyra, Keiron and Lloyd took part in a Dodgeball Cluster Competition and Sir John Thursby Sports Hall. The children had the opportunity to play lots of matches against others schools. They were a fantastic team and played brilliantly.

Congratulations to Rayhan who won a School Games badge for his honesty throughout the competition.

We are very pleased to announce that for the second year in a row, we have achieved the Gold School Games Mark awarded for our continued commitment, engagement and delivery of competitive school sport in 2018/19. Thank you to the children, staff and parents who have played their part in achieving this. We look forward to another year of high quality P.E. and school sport at Briercliffe. Well done everyone!
