Let's Go Sing 2023

Let’s Go Sing! On Monday 6th March, the school choir, run by Mrs Holder and Miss Ramsbottom, went to King George’s Hall in Blackburn for the Let’s Go Sing event. There were 22 children in the choir who attended. We went after lunch and performed in front of a huge audience in the evening, We sang Power in Me as a group song and 8 other songs that we performed with the 10 other schools who joined the event. There was also a teacher song that Mrs Holder and Miss Ramsbottom performed with the other teachers. It was a great event and we really enjoyed it. Thank you to the teachers and our families for their support. By Gracie, Lillie, Natasha and Amelia

World Book Day - 2023

Well done and thank you to all those children (and staff!) who dressed up today to celebrate World Book Day. There were some amazing costumes and many children have worked really hard to be creative and design their costumes. The children have spent time this week exploring new vocabulary and have talked about a book called ‘The Word Collector’ by Peter Reynolds. Thank you again for supporting our World Book Day celebrations. Have a look at the wonderful pictures below.

Mad Science Assemblies

All our children enjoyed a visit from the Mad Science team this week. They were definitely wowed by all the experiments and demonstrations which explored the topic of sound. Well done to all the volunteers who cam out to take part in the demonstrations, you were brilliant.

Fairytale Afternoon - February 2023

On 24th February, each class joined together with another class to enjoy listening to a traditional fairytale. After, the children used their crafting skills to make their own characters from the fairytale they read. Our KS2 children really enjoyed supporting and working with our younger children.

Faith Visit - KS2

As part of their learning about religion of Islam in R.E, our years 3 and 5 children took part in a workshop delivered by an Islamic faith leader. The children learned about many aspects of the faith including from their beliefs and values to their traditions and culture.

Maths Challenge Day

On Friday 10th February four Y5 mathematicians - Grace, Joshua, Florrie and Dexter - attended Unity College to represent Briercliffe in the inaugural Burnley school Maths Challenge Day. The event sees teams competing against each other in a series of rounds which challenge fluency and problem-solving skills. Our four mathematicians worked fantastically together and earned the second prize trophy plus the opportunity to attend a finals day later in the year.

NSPCC Number Day

Thank you to everyone who joined in today to celebrate Number Day on Friday 3rd February. The children have enjoyed wearing numbers, shapes and patterns and have all taken part in some fun number tasks or activities. We will let you know the total raised for NSPCC once the money

We raised an amazing £247.25 for NSPCC. Thank you to everyone for their contributions!

Briercliffe Choir Performing By Your Side

Our children took part in The Big Children In Need Sing Along. Thank you to our friends at Burnley College for supporting us with the filming.

Pumpkin Carving Competition

On Friday 22nd October, we held our Pumpkin Carving Competition. We were overwhelmed by the sheer number of amazing, creative, scary, spiky, multiple-layered, painted, illuminated and quite simply incredible pumpkins (pictures below). We know that you will have taken lots of time and effort to design them and most importantly, we can see that children had fun making them. All the children were taken to the hall during the day to look at all the pumpkins. Each of the teachers chose winners for their year group, but you are all winners in our eyes. Our fancy dress during the day and sweet cones sold at the end of the day, sold by our PFA, were a huge success.

I would like to say a huge thank you to the children, parents, staff and PFA for your support. It was such a lovely atmosphere in school for our last day of the half term. We wish everyone a wonderful holiday.

Regards,

Mr A Hartley.
