Pumpkin Carving Competition

On Friday 22nd October, we held our Pumpkin Carving Competition. We were overwhelmed by the sheer number of amazing, creative, scary, spiky, multiple-layered, painted, illuminated and quite simply incredible pumpkins (pictures below). We know that you will have taken lots of time and effort to design them and most importantly, we can see that children had fun making them. All the children were taken to the hall during the day to look at all the pumpkins. Each of the teachers chose winners for their year group, but you are all winners in our eyes. Our fancy dress during the day and sweet cones sold at the end of the day, sold by our PFA, were a huge success.

I would like to say a huge thank you to the children, parents, staff and PFA for your support. It was such a lovely atmosphere in school for our last day of the half term. We wish everyone a wonderful holiday.

Regards,

Mr A Hartley.

FRIDAY 5th JULY

Key Stage 1

Our Year 6s have been doing some gardening every Friday for four weeks.  They have been trying to jazz our garden up a bit and are adding a lovely scent to our garden which is Lavender.  Everyone has been really kind and have given us some plants to plant in our beautiful garden, such as, chillies, lavender, lillies, strawberries and bee friendly flowers.  On our first session, we cleared out the tyres (they were very very messy). The next session, we did the same thing as they were very messy.  On the third and fourth week, we planted some lovely plants and have some still to plant.

The Year 6s have also been doing golf up at Nelson Golf Club. They all tried really hard, some hit the ball and some failed, (Mrs Robinson).  The children are really excited to do it again next week.

On Wednesday 3rd July, some Year 5s and Year 6s participated in a cricket tournament and did very well.  They were all challenged and had a wonderful time. There was some amazing hits and ballers. Our school came 2nd place, they were very proud of themselves and came back to school with silver medals and chuffed faces.

The Year 3s and 4s have been watching the Iron Man for their topic. They all had lots of fun and loved the movie.

Class 6 and 11 are rehearsing for their concert for friends and family.  They have had a talented teacher and are very excited for the concert and love all the songs they have been assigned, especially 'Shake it off'.

On Wednesday, the weather was much kinder; it meant that sports day could go-ahead as planned. The children participated in different activities, which tested their resolve and team spirit. It was a huge success and was attended by many parents who cheered children on with gusto. Well done parents! Our winners of 2019 were.......drum roll please...... BLUE TEAM! Thanks need to go to Miss Lonsdale who worked so hard to make sports week a success.

Year 3 and 4 are still working on their exciting Iron Man topic. The children are enjoying it so much they will be quite sad when it is over. The children will be moving on to a new topic soon - The Romans.
